A Eugene police officer was attacked and briefly overwhelmed by a man Thursday evening in the River Road area but was able to gain control of the suspect with the help of a Good Samaritan, Eugene police said Friday.
The Good Samaritan is a 53-year-old Eugene man, police said Friday, but the man’s name has not been released.
Officer Jeremy Greene suffered minor injuries in the struggle, police said, but did not require medical treatment. His injuries included scrapes and scratches on his neck, knees and elbows.
Christopher Leonard Johnson, 32, was arrested for assaulting a public safety officer and was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield by medics as a precaution, police said. He was cleared by hospital staff and taken to the Lane County Jail on the assault charge, as well as warrants for second-degree criminal trespass and disorderly
