The Ivory Park SAPS arrested a 31-year-old man for possession of an unlicensed firearm and three rounds of live ammunition on Monday.
According to the Ivory Park SAPS communication officer Captain Bernard Matimulane, the suspect was arrested during a routine patrol by crime prevention officers.
“When he saw the police the suspect attempted to flee but the officers caught up with him. The firearm will be taken to forensics to check if it has been used to commit a crime in Ivory Park or anywhere else,” said Matimulane.
Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, the Station Commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, welcomed the confiscation of the firearm and the arrest of the suspect.
“Considering the number of robberies committed with firearms, the recovery of this firearm is welcomed,” said Ngcobo.
