Grandfather of Oklahoma teen killed by homeowner in burglary says AR15 made for ‘unfair’ fight

Three Oklahoma teenagers were killed last week when they broke into a house and were met by a homeowner with an AR15. Now the grandfather of one of the teenagers is speaking out about his grandson’s death.

According to KTUL-TV, Leroy Schumacher, grandfather of 17-year-old Jacob Redfearn, believes the death of Redfearn was unjustified because the homeowner’s AR15 gave him an unfair advantage over the three burglars.

Speaking to KTUL, Schumacher acknowledged that breaking into a house was “stupid,” but death was not the appropriate consequence.

“What these three boys did was stupid,” Schumacher said. “They knew they could be punished for it but they did not deserve to die.”

“Brass knuckles against an AR-15? C’mon. Who was afraid for their life?” Schumacher said.

The homeowner who pulled the trigger has not been charged with any crimes because police say he acted in self-defense. But Schumacher reinterated his belief that the consequences

Moncks Corner man who killed intruder in self-defense jailed in federal drug conspiracy

The Moncks Corner man who police said defended his family last month by shooting an armed intruder to death has been jailed a second time in connection with a federal drug probe, court documents and officials said.

Justin Washington, 27, was free on bail in the federal case and confined to his house when a masked gunman broke into his home last month. With his wife and two children terrified, Washington shot the burglar four times, investigators said.

Washington was not allowed to have a gun under the conditions of his release on a felony charge of conspiring to possess more than 500 grams of cocaine with intent to distribute. Federal authorities arrested him Tuesday, a Berkeley County sheriff’s spokesman said. He was expected to be transferred to Texas to face the federal charge.

His arrest is not expected to change officials’ ruling that Washington acted legally in self-defense when he

“Self-defense:” 3 masked, armed home invaders killed by homeowner in Oklahoma

BROKEN ARROW, Oklahoma — Three teens dressed in black and wearing masks and gloves were killed by a resident when they broke into a home, Oklahoma authorities said Monday, March 27th.

The 23-year-old son of the homeowner fired shots from a rifle; officials said. One suspect had a knife, another carried brass knuckles.

“Preliminary investigation looks like it’s self-defense,” said Wagoner County Sheriff’s Deputy Nick Mahoney, cautioning the investigation was continuing into the midday home invasion.

The shooter voluntarily spoke with investigators. Neither he nor his father were hurt.

A 21-year-old woman turned herself into Broken Arrow police and may have been a getaway driver, Mahoney said.

Shortly before 12:30 p.m., the apparent burglars broke through a door in the back of the home outside Broken Arrow, a Tulsa suburb. The young man, who was there with his father, encountered them.

“There was a short exchange of words, then gunfire happened,” Mahoney told reporters.
