He helped his overdosing friend by calling 911. Police slapped him with a manslaughter charge.

When his friend began overdosing last November, 32-year-old Christopher Williams did what everyone has been taught to do with a person in a medical emergency: He called 911. Tragically, his friend still died.

This week, Williams was charged with manslaughter for the death.

The reason: Williams was allegedly involved in helping 18-year-old Ariell Brundige in Clay County, Florida, get the drug that she overdosed on. That would normally involve, perhaps, charges for drug possession or distribution. But in this case, police have not only charged Williams with manslaughter, but have also charged 32-year-old Trumaine Muller, who supplied the drugs to Brundige, with murder and 26-year-old Tyler Hamilton, who also helped in getting the drugs, with manslaughter, according to Jacksonville.com.

According to police, Brundige joined Hamilton, her boyfriend, and Williams, a friend, to buy what they thought was heroin from Muller. It turned out to be fentanyl, a

Driver arrested in LIE wrong-way crash in Plainview, police say

A Westchester County man was arrested and charged with DWI and reckless endangerment after he drove the wrong way on the Long Island Expressway early Monday — crashing into another vehicle in Plainview and injuring the driver, police said.

Police said John Durant, 41, of Pelham, drove westbound in the eastbound lanes of the LIE at Wicks Road in Brentwood in a 2007 Nissan Murano. At about 4 a.m. on Monday, he crashed into a 2013 Nissan Altima near Exit 46 in Plainview, police said.

The Altima driver, Fatma Parwana, 24, of Medford, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip and treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening, according to police. She was later released.

Durant, who also was taken to Good Samaritan, was charged with driving while intoxicated and first-degree reckless endangerment, police said. His arraignment will occur at a later date.

The crash closed the eastbound roadway

DC police say gun seizures up as detectives focus on drug suppliers

A D.C. police squad formed two years ago to target drug distributors seized more guns in the first four months of this year than it did in all of 2016, which authorities say has helped achieve a sharp reduction in violent crime.

Mayor Muriel E. Bowser (D) and Police Chief Peter Newsham singled out the Narcotics Enforcement Unit on Wednesday ahead of the summer months, when crime has traditionally increased in the city.

Homicides have remained steady in the District this year compared to last — tied at 40 — but robberies, sex assaults and assaults with weapons are all down this year, leading to a 25 percent decrease in violent crime overall. The drug unit recovered 49 firearms through the beginning of May; it confiscated 42 in all of 2016. In all, the department seized 1,870 guns last year.

“The goal of this unit was to focus on the illegal drugs in our

SBI: Raleigh police officers shot in self-defense in killing of Jaqwan Terry

Two police officers involved in the fatal shooting of a 24-year-old Raleigh man in August were acting in self-defense, a State Bureau of Investigation review concluded.

Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman released the findings in a report Wednesday evening as she announced that no charges would be filed against the officers involved in the death of Jaqwan Julius Terry on Donald Ross Drive.

The shooting occurred on Aug. 29 after Raleigh police officer B.K. Burleson responded to a 911 call at 11 a.m. about a man with a gun outside a home at 241 Donald Ross Drive. The woman inside had called for help, saying that Terry, with whom she had just ended a contentious relationship, had shown up at her home with a gun.

Terry was still in the neighborhood when Burleson responded to the call, but he started to run when the officer asked to speak with him, according
